Storytime with Sinterklaas at Nelis' Dutch Village is coming up fast. There are limited presentation times, please note them on the schedule below and plan your visit.

Sinterklaas, in his full formal robes will tell the stories and legend of this Dutch centuries-old tradition. Children love this event and we invite you to come and enjoy it with them. A short preview follows.

In the Netherlands, the Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) season begins in mid November. Nearly every city, town and village has its own Sinterklaas parade to open the season in which Sinterklaas goes about the country to determine if the children have been well-behaved. On the eve of Sinterklaas Day (Dec. 6th), one Dutch custom for children is to set their wooden shoes outside on the doorstep filled with carrots for Sinterklaas' big white horse. The children hope to find gifts and candies in the morning.

Our presentation preserves this tradition as our Sinterklaas relates the old Dutch customs and stories. Children in the audience also learn traditional Dutch songs.

All are welcome to enjoy this "best time of the year" activity with cookies and hot cider. "A Dutch Christmas - The Legend of Sinterklaas" booklet is available year-round. We also have many Sinterklaas items in our shops and on our special Sinterklaas page.

This is an opportunity to browse our gala shops with gifts including Delft pottery, decorated wooden shoes, decorated wooden bowls, Dutch candies, licorice, chocolate letters, Precious Moments figurines, and hand carved candles.

We are looking forward to seeing you and your family at Story time with Sinterklaas.
